Assessment requirements
You are required to write an essay on the following subject:
Compare and contrast the income tax rules that apply to an individual who is either employed or selfemployed. Your essay should consider how employment and self-employment are distinguished from
each other, and should deal with the various aspects of the taxation of both employment income and
income from self-employment.
Your essay should:
Include computational examples to illustrate your comments
Be written in a business style, assume to be addressed to a financially literate reader
Be based on the taxation legislation included in Income Tax Acts 1967 and Real Property Gain Tax
Act 1976
Your essay should not exceed 2,000 words. Please note that 2,000 words is the maximum that will be
marked, and any words in excess of 2,000 will not be marked.
